Circa 1920's Russian Soumak Rug. The Soumak technique is one of the oldest known weaving methods, with evidence dating back to the 7th century BC from excavations near Ankara in Anatolia. Traditionally, Soumak rugs were produced by various tribes across the Caucasus, Persia, and Anatolia, serving both decorative and functional purposes, such as floor coverings and storage bags.
